AMERICAN THERMAL POWER

Electricity from Low Temperature Waste Heat

How Low Temperature Waste Heat compares to other kinds of Alternative Energy

Low Temperature Waste Heat is a huge additional source of Alternative Energy. It does not replace solar, wind, geothermal, or any other form of Alternative Energy. In fact, as long as energy is used in any form, there will always be waste heat. Even if you power your air conditioning with solar panels, you will still have 1.3 tons (or more) of waste heat for every ton of AC you have.

A common means of  evaluating Alternative Energy is “cost per watt”.  By this standard, our VLTHE technology is far more economical than solar or wind. Solar electricity, for example, is only available for a few hours per day, while our VLTHE system runs 24 hours per day.

One watt of installed photovoltaic cells produces 2,200 watt-hours (2.2 kWh) per year (in Arizona, for example), or less where the sun shines less. One watt of VLTHE power produces over 8,600 watt-hours (8.6 kWh) per year, rain or shine: almost 4 times the power for about the same installed cost. Finally, there is an Alternative Energy technology that does not need huge subsidies to be economical.

Alternative Energy is not just about the environment any more. It is as essential to the future of our economy as it is to the future of our planet. Sure, we can’t keep on spewing more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. But we also can’t continue exporting over a billion dollars per day for foreign oil, or the millions of jobs that money would support in the U.S.

We will run out of money long before they run out of oil. We need all the Alternative Energy we can get, in every possible form. We need every watt of solar, wind, geothermal energy we can get, and we need it yesterday. If we install these technologies as fast humanly possible, it will take years to replace a fraction of the fossil fuels we use.

Waste heat is only waste heat because we didn’t have the technology to use it. Now that we can use it, low temperature waste heat will become an increasingly important new source of emission-free energy for our planet, while creating jobs throughout the U.S. without subsidies.

Save $2000/year

per ton of AC/R

Low Temperature Heat Energy wasted

in the U.S. today and every day:

20,000,000 MWH

= 1.77 times the total electricity we use per day,

= Power from 8 million tons of coal (88,000 rail cars)/day

= The energy in 11,000,000 barrels of oil per day (more than we import)

Converting just 10% of this to electricity saves:

1.6 Million Tons of Greenhouse Gas Emissions per day

             =  emissions from 100,000,000 cars

$200,000,000 per day

= 1 million jobs that don’t exist now

This energy is easy to capture from commercial air conditioning/refrigeration systems and from power plants.

Now we don’t need to waste it any more.
